Water Damage

What is Water Restoration?

  • According to FEMA, restoration is the process in which someone takes to reduce the loss of property that has been impacted by a disaster. Water restoration therefore refers to the process someone takes to properly clean, dry, and sanitize property that has been affected by water damage.

What are Water Categories?

There are three different water categories that may present itself during a water emergency. Each category brings it's own element of care and all come from different sources. Depending on the category of water there also comes with it a certain health risk if contact is made, or prolonged exposure exists.

  • Clean Water: or 'clear water' will not typically pose any health risks, but it can cause major damage if left untreated and not found quickly. This damage can be caused from a leaking sink, water line to an appliance, bathtub, or a water heater to name a few.

  • Gray Water: has the potential to cause harm or illness. This water will have some amount of contamination in it which can be chemical based (cleaners), physical (floating debris), and/or biological ( human or pet made).

  • Black Water: has the potential to cause severe harm or illness. This water can be highly unsanitary and can come from ground surface water, sewage backups, or other water sources.

The Four Classes of Flood & Water Damage

There are four classes of water damage that can occur, that range from low severity to high. Dry Allied has the experience and knowledge  to handle any class of damage no matter the severity.

  • Class 1: minimal water extraction required and little to no materials affected. This will have your quickest dry and mitigation time.

  • Class 2: large area or entire room is flooded with water marks no more than two feet up the walls. Moderate water extraction needed with building materials affected. This will require longer time to dry and mitigate.

  • Class 3: this class usually signified multiple areas and/or multiple rooms affected. This class is also used to clarify water damage above two feet up the walls - typically showing a water source from above the ceiling. Heavy extraction and mitigation required. Restoration or build back will likely be needed.

  • Class 4: these are unique situations that require creative drying or mitigation techniques.
